AMD claims, the number of cores and threads is the highest in the realm of PC workstations. What is the sophistication like?
AMD Threadripper Pro Specifications
AMD Threadripper Pro actually consists of 4 variants. In addition to the 3995WX with 64-core, there are also other processors that offer ranging from 12-core, 16-core, to 32-core. The bottom version, the 12-core Threadripper Pro 3945WX, has a base clock of 4 GHz. While the 64-core Threadripper Pro 3995WX has a base clock of 2.7 GHz and a boost clock of 4.2 GHz.
The TDP of all AMD Threadripper Pro variants is 280 W, and supports a maximum memory of up to 2 TB, and is compatible with memory types such as UDIMM, RDIMM, LRDIMM, and 3DS RDIMM with ECC Support. Even more interesting, this processor also supports 128 PCIe Gen 4.
With its super fast performance, the Threadripper Pro processor is suitable for use by professional studios, designers, engineers, and data scientists. According to AMD, Threadripper Pro’s core count and frequency configurations are designed to suit a variety of different licensing models, for software that’s licensed per core (high frequency models are recommended) or per socket (more cores is better).
First workstation with AMD Threadripper Pro
One of the first workstation category PCs to use the AMD Threadripper Pro processor was the Lenovo ThinkStation P620. This device is offered in several variants according to the available Threadripper Pro series. Users are also given the option of graphics cards up to 2x Quadro RTX 8000 or 4x Quadro RTX 4000.
Lenovo ThinkStation P620 comes with a maximum storage of 20 TB, with 8 total drives. This device with a 1000W power supply is also equipped with 6 PCI Express slots, PCIe Gen 4, Windows 10 Pro or Ubuntu Linux operating systems, and a maximum memory capacity of 1 TB DDR4-3200 with 8 DIMM slots.
